  • The only item on this shelf with a published preparation time — two hours or more in the freezer or the fridge
  • Stemless and gel-walled, so a glass of champagne stays cold to the last mouthful without an ice bucket on the table
  • A stemless glass is held in the hand, and a hand is 98 °F — the gel is working against your palm, which is why the silicone band exists

Best for: Champagne or prosecco that has to stay cold on a warm afternoon with no bucket in sight

Two hours

Eight items on this shelf are about keeping wine cold. One of them tells you how long to prepare it.

That is the whole difference between a cooling claim and a usable instruction, and it costs nothing to print.

The physics of a stemless glass

A wine glass has a stem because a hand is warm. Take the stem away and you have put a heat source against the bowl.

Gel in the wall and a silicone band is the modern answer: the cold comes from the glass itself rather than from the bottle, and your palm never touches the inner wall.

It works. It is also why this glass exists at all.

What readers ask us

Freezer or fridge?

Either, for two hours or more. The freezer gets the gel colder and is the right choice for sparkling wine; the fridge is the gentler option if the glass is going to hold something that should not be ice-cold.

What is it made of?

Not stated. Host sells the same gel technology on this site in BPA-free plastic and in real glass, at different prices, and both of those listings say which. This one does not.

Why stemless for champagne?

A stem exists to keep your hand off the bowl. Stemless plus insulation is the other solution to the same problem: the gel and the double wall do what the stem used to. It works, and it is why the silicone band is there.
