  • A removable divider, so the same bag is a four-bottle carrier or a plain cooler
  • It carries wine; it does not taste it. Seven items on this shelf chill, pour or present and this one transports

Best for: Getting four bottles to a picnic, a BYOB table or a friend’s house intact and cold

Five millimeters

That is the only padding figure on this shelf, and padding is what this bag is for.

Four bottles in a soft bag will find each other over a cattle grid. Five millimeters of closed-cell foam and a belted divider is a real answer, published in millimeters.

What it does not do

Taste anything. This is a carrier among chillers and tasting trays, and it is the only thing here that gets the wine to the table in the first place.

One figure to ignore

The catalog lists its weight as nine grams. An insulated four-bottle tote is not nine grams, so its real weight is simply not available.

What readers ask us

How long does it keep bottles cold?

The listing says "for hours" and gives no number. What it does publish is the construction — PU thermal insulation, 5 mm (0.20 in) PE foam, a leakproof lining — which is more than any other insulated item on this shelf tells you about itself.

Will a champagne bottle fit?

The interior is given as 8.6 × 7.1 × 12.5 inches for four normal bottles. Champagne bottles are wider than wine bottles, so four would be tight and two with the divider out would be fine. The published figures let you work that out, which is the point of publishing them.

Why does 600D polyester matter?

It is a fabric weight: 600 denier is the weight used for hard-wearing luggage, and the listing contrasts it with burlap and paper wine bags. It is the only fabric specification on this shelf.
