What the maker puts in writing

  • 1600 ml, hand-blown lead-free crystal
  • Designed to aerate a full 750 ml bottle; spacious interior for optimal oxygenation
  • Slanted top to avoid spills and drips
  • Narrow neck for a comfortable grip
  • Wide mouth, so cleaning is easy

Eight hundred and fifty milliliters of air

That is what a 1,600 ml decanter gives a 750 ml bottle, and it is the most on this shelf.

The two 750 ml decanters here give it none: pour a bottle in and the wine is at the lip.

Three facts in seven bullets

Capacity, material, and the three shape features — slanted top, narrow neck, wide mouth.

The rest is “a symphony of taste sensations” and “pure, translucent magic” territory. The facts are good ones; there are just three of them.

What readers ask us

Is 1600 ml for a 1600 ml bottle?

No — the listing is clear that it is designed to aerate a full 750 ml bottle. The extra 850 ml is air, deliberately. That is the opposite of the Smaier listing on this shelf, which calls 1500 ml a standard bottle size.

Does a bigger body aerate better?

More surface and more headroom mean more contact between wine and air, so in principle yes. Nobody on this shelf publishes a decanting time for an open decanter; the two that quote 3 to 5 minutes both use a filter insert instead.

How do I clean it?

By hand, through the wide mouth. No dishwasher statement is made. The YouYah set at the top of this shelf is the only item here that ships the stainless cleaning beads that do this job properly.
