  • One of only two items on this shelf with a published decanting time — 3 to 5 minutes, through a double-layer filter
  • The filter catches sediment as well as aerating, which matters for an older red and which no plain decanter here does
  • Seven hundred and fifty milliliters for a 750 ml bottle, so the wine sits at the rim with no room to swirl

Best for: An older red with sediment, aerated in five minutes rather than half an hour

What the maker puts in writing

  • 100% lead-free crystal, suitable for a 750 ml bottle of red
  • Double-layer filter: filters impurities and aerates
  • About 3 to 5 minutes, instead of a longer wait
  • Slanted top to avoid spills; narrow neck for grip

A mechanism, not a shape

At least seven of the eleven items on this shelf are a shape: pour the wine in, wait, hope.

This one makes the wine pass through a double mesh on the way in. The listing puts a number on the result — three to five minutes — and only one other item here does.

And the catch

Seven hundred and fifty milliliters of body for a 750 ml bottle.

With a filter that matters less than it would in an open decanter, because the work happens in the pour. But at $41.50 it is the second-most expensive item on a shelf where $29.99 buys 1,600 ml of the same crystal.

What you are paying for is the filter, and the sediment it keeps out of the glass.

What readers ask us

Does a filter really decant in 3–5 minutes?

That is the maker’s claim, and the mechanism is plausible: forcing the wine through a mesh in a thin stream exposes far more surface than letting it sit in a bowl. The YouYah set at the top of this shelf makes the same claim against the same half-hour baseline.

Why does the 750 ml capacity matter with a filter?

Less than with an open decanter — the aeration happens as the wine passes the filter, not in the bowl. But you still cannot swirl a full vessel, and this one is full after one bottle.

Is the filter for sediment or for air?

Both, per the listing: the double layer is stated to filter out impurities and aerate. For a bottle with ten years of sediment in it that is a genuine function, and it is the only item on this shelf that offers it.
