What the maker puts in writing

  • Italian BPA-free star glass, stays crystal clear after every wash
  • Large carafe, 33.75 oz capacity — the title says 36.5 Ounce
  • Wide mouth: takes ice cubes and fruit chunks
  • Shaped to fit a refrigerator door
  • Dishwasher safe

It does not agree with itself

Thirty-six and a half ounces, in the title.

Thirty-three and three-quarter ounces, in bullet two and again in bullet four.

Both are plausible for this carafe and they are eighty milliliters apart. It is the clearest of three capacity errors on this shelf, and the mildest.

What it is for

Not aeration. Serving.

A hundred and two millimeters wide and a wide mouth: it goes in the fridge door, it takes a brush, and it comes out of the dishwasher looking new. The six decanters on this shelf that claim to open up a red cannot do any of those three things.

What readers ask us

So what is the capacity?

The listing gives both 36.5 oz (title) and 33.75 oz (bullets two and four). That is 1,079 ml against 998 ml — about 80 ml apart. Either is over a standard bottle; this page will not pick one for Bormioli Rocco.

Does it aerate?

Not by design. It is a serving carafe: no slanted spout, no filter, no insert. Decanting into any open vessel exposes wine to air, and a tall narrow one does less of that than a wide-bellied decanter.

Why does fitting the fridge matter?

Because a carafe of white or rosé has to go back somewhere between pours. This is the only vessel on this shelf shaped for the door, and the only one that publishes a width small enough — 102 mm (4.02 in).
