What the maker puts in writing

  • A DIY ice bucket for wine and champagne bottles
  • Decorate with fruit, flowers or herbs
  • Instructions included; add warm water to release the ice barrel
  • Stainless steel bucket, safe and durable plastic container

What this actually is

Not an ice mold for a glass. A mold that freezes a hollow cylinder of ice, with flowers set in it, which then stands on the table holding a bottle.

Two items on this shelf do this. The other costs $40.38 and makes its inner mold from acrylic instead of plastic.

What is missing, and what the other one gives

No freezing time, no capacity, no dimensions.

The acrylic version publishes 24 hours in the freezer and a five-to-ten-minute warm-water release. For twenty-two dollars less, you get the same stainless shell and have to work the timings out yourself.

What readers ask us

How long does it take to freeze?

Not stated. The comparable acrylic mold on this shelf publishes 24 hours, and an ice barrel of that size will not be quicker. Plan a day ahead whichever you buy.

Plastic or acrylic — does it matter?

Acrylic is harder, clearer and more brittle; plastic is softer and flexes, which arguably helps release a block of ice. The dearer mold on this shelf makes acrylic its quality claim, and this one does not contest it.

How do I get the ice out?

Warm water into the inner bucket, per the instructions. The acrylic version gives a time for the same step — five to ten minutes — which this listing does not.
