What the maker puts in writing

  • 1 qt cleaning kit
  • 1 qt shatterproof plastic jar
  • 4 × 0.5 oz packets of alkaline beer line cleaning solution
  • 1 faucet wrench
  • 1 faucet brush

That is the whole listing. No adjectives, no story, no claims.

Two ounces

Four half-ounce packets. Four cleanings.

On this shelf, Escentile supplies a pound of powder for thirty or more cleanings at $34.99, and Bar-King sells thirty-two individual packets for $34.95. This is $29.25 for the hardware and four doses.

That is a fair trade as long as you know you are buying a tool, not a supply.

And the word to read carefully

Alkaline.

It is the right chemistry for beer residue and it is the chemistry that needs gloves. One cleaner on this shelf says plainly that it is non-caustic and will not burn skin or eyes. This one does not make that claim.

What readers ask us

Four cleanings — is that enough?

It is four kegs. Lines should be cleaned between kegs, so for most households that is a few months and then you buy powder. The Bar-King 32-packet box on this shelf is $34.95 and is designed to be used with any kit, including this one.

What does "alkaline" mean for handling?

Alkaline cleaners lift protein and yeast residue, which is exactly what a beer line needs. They are also the family of cleaners that can irritate skin and eyes. Bar-King on this shelf states its powder is non-caustic and will not burn; Kegco states the chemistry and leaves the handling to you. Use gloves.

Will it fit my keg?

The listing does not say, which on a coupler-dependent tool is a real gap. Bar-King names Sankey D and ball lock; Fermtech sells separate versions for each. Check your coupler before buying this one.
