What the maker puts in writing

  • 100 oz hand pump · ball lock keg adapter · brush · faucet plug-brush · 4 oz cleaning solution
  • Fits most ball lock kegs; a gentle pump moves the solution through the lines without leaks
  • Cleaner good for 15–20 uses
  • You do not need much pressure in the system
  • If your adapter slips from the hose, cut the last ½ inch of the hose and reinsert, securing with a zip tie or metal clamp

The most honest bullet on this shelf

That last one.

A maker telling you, before you buy, that the adapter may come off the hose and exactly how to stop it. No other listing here admits a weakness of any kind.

It is also a warning: what comes out of a slipping adapter is pressurized cleaning solution.

Ball lock, and only ball lock

Homebrew kegs use ball lock posts; commercial kegs use a Sankey coupler.

This kit does the first. If you do not know which you have, look at the keg before you buy — the Bar-King kit on this shelf handles both and costs $12 more.

Four ounces, fifteen to twenty cleanings

Four times the dose supplied by the cheapest kit here, at $8.74 more.

What readers ask us

Ball lock or Sankey?

Ball lock only, which is the homebrew keg standard. If your kegerator takes a commercial keg you need a Sankey coupler — the Bar-King kit on this shelf names Sankey D and ball lock, and the other Fermtech kit uses a faucet adapter instead.

Should the slipping warning worry me?

It is an unusual thing to publish and a useful one. A pressurized adapter leaving a hose sprays cleaning solution. The maker gives the remedy — trim the hose end, reinsert, zip tie or clamp — and says it is unnecessary if you do not over-pressurize. Have a clamp ready.

What is the cleaner?

The listing calls it a PBW cleaner and recommends buying PBW in future; the sister kit calls its 4 oz "Brevline" and "similar to PBW". The two pages do not agree about the same quantity of the same product. Four ounces, 15 to 20 uses, is the figure both publish.
