The arithmetic for unthreaded dispensers

Two boxes on this shelf fit a piercing dispenser.

RedRock: thirty cartridges, $34.99, $1.17 each.

ICO: ten cartridges, $17.99, $1.80 each — with 900 psi published, two years of guarantee and three named machines.

Where the sealing claim stops

Zero loss of CO2 during storage.

A good claim, and no shelf life attached to it. The same shelf has a cartridge that publishes five years. RedRock says the seal is perfect and does not say for how long.

What readers ask us

RedRock or ICO for an unthreaded dispenser?

RedRock is $1.17 a cartridge and sells thirty; ICO is $1.80 and sells ten, with a published 900 psi, a two-year guarantee and three named appliances. If you already know your dispenser works with unthreaded 16 g (0.6 oz) cartridges, RedRock is the cheaper refill. If you are unsure, ICO tells you what fits.

What does "individually sealed" mean?

That each cartridge is packaged separately rather than loose in a box. The maker claims zero CO2 loss in storage as a result. No shelf life is published, so the claim has no duration attached to it.

Unthreaded or threaded?

This is unthreaded: a smooth neck that your dispenser pierces. Four cartridges on this shelf are threaded 3/8-24 instead and will not fit a piercing dispenser. Check the cartridge your machine came with.
