What readers ask us

Threaded or unthreaded — how do I know?

Look at the cartridge your dispenser came with: a threaded one has a screw thread cut into the neck, an unthreaded one is smooth and gets pierced. They are not interchangeable. This is a threaded 3/8-24 cartridge; two items on this shelf are unthreaded.

Why is it the most expensive per cartridge?

Because it is a six-pack. Small packs cost more per unit everywhere, and on this shelf the difference is two and a half times: $2.67 here against $1.05 for the 30-pack. If your dispenser is threaded and you know it, buy the big box.

Does non-lubricated matter?

For a drink, yes. Some industrial CO2 carries trace lubricant from filling, and that is what people mean when they complain of a taste. TrailKeg states non-lubricated; ICO states EU food standards and no metallic aftertaste. Both are addressing the same worry.
