How do I clean between narrow wine rack slats?

Narrow gaps between slats are a genuine access challenge, and a few simple tools make it manageable.

Narrow brushes reach where hands can’t

A narrow-bristled brush, similar to a bottle brush but flatter, can reach into tight gaps between slats to clear dust without needing to remove bottles first.

A wrapped cloth on a flat tool works for wider debris

For dust or debris too substantial for a brush alone, wrapping a cloth around a thin, flat tool (a ruler or similar) and running it between slats can clear buildup a brush might just push around.

Periodic partial clearing helps for a deeper clean

As covered in our note on cleaning a rack with bottles still in place, periodically clearing sections of the rack gives full access for a more thorough clean than working entirely around bottles and slats.

What to do in practice

Use a narrow brush or wrapped flat tool for routine slat cleaning between bottles, and periodically clear sections for a deeper clean using the same approach covered in our related note.

What we would not do

Suggest slats can only be cleaned by fully emptying the rack every time — narrow tools handle routine dust removal without that level of disruption.
