Is a replacement LED lighting upgrade worth it, or should I leave a cooler as-is?

This is mostly a question of whether there’s an actual functional need, rather than a general upgrade worth pursuing proactively.

Working factory lighting rarely needs replacing proactively

As covered in our note on how long interior LED lights typically last, factory LED lighting is generally long-lasting under normal use — replacing functioning lighting purely for a marginal upgrade isn’t something most owners have a strong reason to do.

A genuine failure is the more common trigger for replacement

If the original lighting has actually failed, sourcing a compatible replacement (checking manufacturer spare parts availability) addresses a real need — a meaningfully different situation from proactively swapping out working lighting.

Aesthetic preference is a legitimate but optional reason

Some owners may want different lighting color or brightness purely for aesthetic reasons — a legitimate personal choice, but worth recognizing as a preference decision rather than a functional necessity.

What to do in practice

Leave functioning factory lighting as-is unless there’s a genuine aesthetic reason to change it, and address replacement specifically once the original lighting has actually failed.

What we would not do

Recommend replacing working factory lighting as a default upgrade — this only makes practical sense once there’s an actual failure or a specific aesthetic reason driving the change.
