Some cleaning can happen around bottles, but a genuinely thorough clean is easier with the rack cleared.
Light dusting around bottles is reasonable for routine upkeep
Wiping down accessible shelf surfaces, the rack’s frame, or a glass front with bottles still in place works fine for routine dusting between deeper cleans.
A full clean is easier and more effective with the rack emptied
Reaching every surface, particularly on a slatted or angled rack design, is considerably easier without bottles blocking access — for a genuinely thorough clean, emptying the rack (in sections if it’s large) gives better results.
Removing bottles carefully protects both the bottles and the rack
If clearing a rack for cleaning, handle bottles carefully and set them somewhere stable and appropriately cool in the meantime, rather than leaving them out at room temperature for an extended period.
What to do in practice
Do light routine dusting with bottles in place, and periodically do a more thorough clean by clearing the rack in manageable sections rather than working entirely around a full load of bottles.
What we would not do
Suggest a rack can be thoroughly cleaned while fully loaded — accessible-surface dusting is fine routinely, but a genuinely deep clean needs the rack at least partially cleared.
